Spencer joined General American Investors Company, Inc. as a Senior Investment Counselor in 1994, served as its President from August 1995 through January 2012, and Chief Executive Officer and Portfolio Manager through December 2012. He was named a Director of the Company in September 1995 and elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in April 2007.

Spencer began his Wall Street career at Brown Brothers Harriman in 1966. He worked at Beck, Mack & Oliver (1972-86) where he became a General Partner and at Odyssey Partners (1986-89) where he served as a Fund Manager. Spencer's eleemosynary interests include the Innisfree Foundation, Inc., Millbrook, New York, for which he has served as a Trustee since 1986, and the Neuroscience Research Foundation, Inc., San Diego, California, for which he has served as a Trustee since 1992. Spencer is a graduate of Queens College and received his M.B.A. degree in Finance from Columbia University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation and is a Certified Investment Counselor.

Jeffrey joined General American Investors in October 2010, succeeded Spencer Davidson as President on February 1, 2012, and as Chief Executive Officer and Portfolio Manager effective January 1, 2013. Previously, he served as Managing Member and President of Amajac Capital Management, LLC, an investment advisory company he founded in 1999. From 1997 to 1999 he served as Senior Research Analyst and Equity Partner with Para Advisors. From 1994 through 1996 Jeffrey was employed by Bear Stearns & Co. culminating in his position as a senior analyst with the firm's Risk Arbitrage Department with particular focus on valuation related issues and structure. From 1985 through 1990, he rose to the position of Head of Fixed Income Sales and Trading with Miller Tabak Hirsch & Co. Jeffrey graduated from the College of Wooster in 1985 with a BA in English Literature and Duke University's Fuqua School of Business with an MBA in 1994. He served the Financial Accounting Standards Board as a member of the Emerging Issues Task Force on Acquisition Accounting as well as a contributor on a number of other projects.

Sally came to General American Investors Company in 1997. Prior to joining the Company, from 1988-1994, she was a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and, from 1991-1997, she served as a technical consultant to investment management organizations in the areas of biotechnology and medical devices. Educational programs included 7 years of research projects and studies at the School of Medicine, SUNY – Stony Brook. She is a graduate of State University of New York at Stony Brook and received a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology SUNY – Stony Brook.

Lee joined General American Investors Company in 2016. Prior to joining the Company, he was a portfolio manager and equities analyst at Gator Capital from 2013 to 2015. He was a Vice-President and equities analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management’s Fundamental Equities Group from 2001 to 2012 . Lee's prior work experience includes merchant banking, management consulting, and graduate-level economics instruction. He holds the Chartered FinancialAnalyst® (CFA®) designation and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He has an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from Stanford University, an M.P.A. with a concentration in economics from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, and a B.A. in economics and political science from Yale University, all with high honors.

Gene joined General American Investors Company in 2005. Prior thereto, he served as the Chief Financial Officer of Prospect Capital Corporation, a business development company, and since 2008 has served on its Board of Directors. Previously, he was employed by Prudential Financial, Inc. (1987-2004) with increasing responsibilities for accounting and financial management in the area of regulated investment products. Prior thereto, he gained diverse audit experience at Deloitte (1982-1987). He received a B.S. in Accounting, cum laude, from Rider University, an M.B.A. in Finance from Rutgers University, and is a CPA (inactive status).

Connie joined General American Investors Company in 2015 as the Human Resources / Benefits Manager. As of January 2024, she was appointed Corporate Secretary. Previously, Connie was the Assistant Corporate Secretary. Prior to joining the Company, she worked in the legal industry for over 15 years, most recently as the Legal Administrator of a boutique labor and employment firm in NYC for nearly 10 years. Connie is a member of both the New York City and the National Chapters of The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Statistics with a minor in Computer Science from SUNY - Stony Brook University.
